HB #1: Patersbier _ Nacho's Straight up

HB #1: Patersbier: "Nacho's Straight up"-  (on tap)  -

This is on tap at the Dank Brewhouse in NE Minneapolis.  It's highly carbonated and pours a beautiful clear yellow color.  The head retention is beautiful with fluffy white head that seems to last for days.   The mouthfeel is rather thin, but creamy.   The taste of this is very simple with the malt and a little bitterness on the end, very creamy mouthfeel, and a nice yeasty finish to the sip.  The yeast is really the winner in this beer.  I think I managed to keep the banana esters out by keeping the fermentation temp very low for the first two days.   The belgian yeast in this beer give it a clove like taste that is fragrant, flavorful, complex, and refreshing.  Fantastic session beer!  I think that the step mash schedule I did allowed this beer to ferment really well and didn't leave very much in a residual sweetness.   Will definitely be doing this beer again, and this mash schedule for Saison's and other Belgian Table beers like Patersbier

***No off flavors to speak off.  Very happy with this one.   Can't wait to try the other 3 versions of this beer.  I'm worried that this half keg will be gone before the others are ready.

Ommegang Zuur - Flanders Oud Bruin

I cracked open a big bottle of Ommegang Zuur last night to share with my pops while we were having some spaghetti with meatballs and Italian sausage. Served it in Red Wine glasses. It went with the meal pretty dang good. Kinda like a light Italian red wine. It tasted like a light bodied brown ale with a little bit of a sour lactic acid taste and a nice chocolate malt and cherry backbone.   The mouthfeel of this beer is fairly thin. It's not extremely sour at all, but seems to blended nicely with the malt to be very drinkable. It is rather tart with a nice dry finish. I definitely enjoyed this beer and would buy it again. I tasted a little bit of the cherry flavor, but it was more in the aroma. I think that this would be a good starter beer into the sour beer world.
